The Chihuahua is a tiny dog with a pear shaped head and a short pointed nose.
Other than the familiar short-haired breed there is also a long-haired Chihuahua variety. This dog comes in colors that include fawn, sand, chestnut, silver steel blue and a combination color of black and tan.
The Chihuahua is a great companion dog. It is known as being courageous, high spirited, and proud. Chihuahuas are strong-willed, but with the proper human leadership they are prone to be very obedient and well mannered. They are deeply loyal and become extremely attached to their owners.
In order to avoid excessive aggressive behavior, you must socialize your Chihuahua as a puppy with other dogs as well as with strangers. Behavior such as jumping on furniture or humans should be discouraged, much the same as you would do with larger dogs. Don’t allow the Chihuahua to be your pack leader as this will develop into many poor behavior issues, such as jealousy, and will become apprehensive of people with the exception of its owner.
The Chihuahua breed tends to be babied because of its small size. Treat the Chihuahua no differently than a large dog breed in order to get an agreeable disposition out of this wonderful little dog.
